Colonial Heritage Festival

PHOTOGRAPHY BY DENIANE KARTCHNER

The Colonial Heritage Festival is a three-day, living history celebration of the founding of the United States of America. Around the week of July 4th, living historians come from throughout the country to create a colonial village complete with all the trades you might expect: a candle maker, a cooper, a printer, a woodworker, and many more. There is also a very sizable military presence including Militia, Continental Army, and British Army. You also get the opportunity to visit with the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or John or Abigail Adams.

I was so excited to take photos at this festival this year. I really appreciated a close up look at papermaking since our family’s ancestors were notable papermakers during the American Revolution!

I’m looking forward to next year when in celebration of America 250, the Colonial Heritage Festival will be the nation’s largest living-history, semiquincentennial celebration west of the original 13 colonies!
